A term commonly used in the USA and Australia (also Varietal Wine) for a type of wine that is mainly made from one grape variety. Such a product, which in the German-speaking world is called Rebsortenwein (varietal wine ) or in France Vin de cépage, usually has to contain at least 75% of the specified variety overseas. In the New World, the second group are generics (generic wines) named after the origin. See also Fighting Varietals.
