The Italian wine expert Giuseppe Vaccarini (*1952) was and is active in many areas of the industry. He began his career in 1972 as a professional sommelier and in 1978 he was awarded the title "Best Sommelier of the World". From 1978 to 1983 he was the director of the Milanese restaurant "Gualtiero Marchesi", has been a teacher at the sommelier school "Istituto Alberghiero Carlo Porta" since 1987 and taught special courses at the Milanese universities "Bocconi" and "Cattolica". Vaccarini is also a consultant to important companies in the food industry. He has also been the author of numerous publications in many magazines on wine and food and is also the author of books. Since 1986 he has regularly acted as technical board member and president of the jury for various national and international sommelier competitions. From 1999 to 2002 he was President of the Association of Italian Sommeliers (AIS) and from 1996 to 2004 President of the "Association de la Sommellerie Internationale" (ASI). In 2007 Vaccarini founded the Italian Sommelier Association "Associazione della Sommellerie Professionale Italiana" (ASPI) and acts as director. This is a selection process to find the professional sommeliers of Italy for competitions.
