In total there are five canonized persons named Urban (which means "The City Man"). Three of them can be counted among the so-called wine saints.

Pope Urban I

The 17th pope officiated from 222 to 230, and the records of his life and work are uncertain. He is said to have been a Roman of noble descent. He is said to have issued a decree that the chalice at the Eucharist (Lord's Supper) must always be of silver or gold. Therefore, he is often depicted with a chalice that he holds in his hands. He is considered to be the patron saint of the vineyards, wine, winegrowers and coopers, and against drunkenness, frost, thunderstorms and lightning. He was allegedly tortured and beheaded under Emperor Severus Alexander (208-235). His presumed date of death is the 19th or 25th of May, his day of remembrance is celebrated on 25th May. Since he was often confused with the Urban of Langres, it is only because of this that he has become a wine saint.
