The winery is located in the municipality of Deutsch-Schützen in the Eisenberg wine-growing region of Burgenland (Austria). The family business was established by Franz and Marie Unger. After his apprenticeship as hotel manager, stays abroad and the training as winegrowing and cellar master in Klosterneuburg Gerald Unger took over the business from his parents in 1992. In 2004 a newly built cellar was put into operation. The vineyards comprise six hectares of vineyards in the Bründlgfangen, Ratschen and Weinberg areas. They are planted with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch (75%), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zweigelt, and the white wine varieties Welschriesling,Pinot Blanc and Riesling. The wines are vinified with the mark of an area typicality. The white wines are aged in steel tanks, the red wines in large wooden barrels or in barriques. Among the premium wines are Eisenberg DAC (Blaufränkisch), Zweigelt Limitation, as well as the red wine cuvées Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot and "Gerus" (Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot). The winery is a member of the "Weinidylle Südburgenland". It also produces noble spirits (wine, marc, fruit).
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
