Twee Jonge Gezellen

The winery is located north of the city of Tulbagh in the South African wine district of the same name. The Dutch name means "two young journeymen" (bachelors). The 300 year old family business was founded in 1710. The vineyards cover 120 hectares of vines, which are planted with 15 varieties. Among them are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Viognier. It was one of the first farms in South Africa to use chilled fermentation. Innovative methods are still used today, for example, night harvesting was introduced in the 1980s to protect the grapes. The speciality of the house are sparkling wines produced according to the classic Méthode Cap Classique (Champagne method). The owner Nicky Krone entered into a partnership with the famous champagne house Mumm in 1995. There are the brands "TJ Schanderl", "Night Nectar" (naturally sweet) and as top product the vintage product "Krone Borealis Brut" (50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir each). With the latter, Nicky Krone was named "Diners Club Winemaker of the Year". In addition to sparkling wines, a wide range of white wines is also produced. Worth mentioning is the sweet wine with the characteristic name "Engeltjipipi" (angel's singing).
