This red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Eger 1 x Médoc Noir (Menoir). Synonyms are Egri Csillagok 7 and Medea. It contains genes from Vitis berlandieri, Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1949 in Hungary by the breeders József Csizmazia and Laszlo Bereznai. The high-yielding vine is resistant to both powdery mildew and frost, but sensitive to drought.
