Tronto

The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Aglianico di Napoli and Tronta. It should not be confused with the Aglianico variety, although according to DNA analyses carried out in 2005, there is a close genetic relationship. However, its parentage is unknown. The variety is grown in a few vineyards west of Salerno in the Campania region, where it is permitted in the DOC wine Costa d'Amalfi. Near Napoli, there are small stocks under the name Aglianico di Napoli. In 2016, one hectare of vines was designated (Kym Anderson statistics).
