The red grape variety originates from Italy and belongs to the large Refosco name group. The name possibly refers to the Veneto province of Treviso, where exactly it might have originated. Synonyms are Borgogna, Gattera, Refosco di Guarnieri and Refosco Guarnieri. The parentage is unknown. The medium to late ripening vine is resistant to fungal diseases. It yields tangy, ruby red wines. The variety is cultivated in Veneto in the provinces of Belluno and Treviso. It is mostly blended with other local varieties, but is also used as table grape. In 2016, 11 hectares of vines were reported with a decreasing trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
