This measure in the vineyard (also called pruning, vomiting, topping, capping, heading, tailing) is carried out a few weeks after the vine has flowered. This involves a moderate pruning of the overhanging shoots. This is to provide better ventilation and sunlight (exposure) and to reduce the risk of infestation by the mould Botrytis. See also under shoot tip pr uning and vine training and vine pruning.
