Trapl

The winery is located in the community of Sarasdorf near Stixneusiedl in the Lower Austrian wine growing region of Carnuntum. After an internship in California, Johannes Trapl took over the family business in 2000. The vineyards comprise 18 hectares of vineyards in the Kirchberg and Spitzerberg areas. They are 70% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, BlaufränkischSt. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and 30% of the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling andPinot Blanc.

The cultivation is carried out according to the guidelines of Biodynamic viticulture, which have been certified since 2016. The emphasis is on plant growth with sensitive foliage care, greening, as well as fertilization with compost, without the use of mineral fertilizers. Through slower ripening of the grapes, more intensive aromas should develop. The selective grape harvest is carried out in two passes with the aim of physiologically ripe grapes.

Johannes Trapl's credo is: "I want to feel the variety, finesse and strength that is in our vineyards and bring a maximum of it into the wines without losing the flow of drinking. Depending on the type of wine, the wines are aged in stainless steel tanks, 500-litre wooden barrels or barriques. The grapes for the premium wines are crushed with feet in large vats. Fermentation takes place spontaneously without pure yeasts and enzymes. Among the premium wines of the house are Spitzerberg (Blaufränkisch), Rubin Carnuntum (Zweigelt), Grüner Veltliner and the red wine cuvée Tilhofen (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Blaufränkisch). The winery is a member of the Rubin Carnuntum Weingüter and Traditionsweingüter Österreich wine associations.
