The white grape variety comes from Portugal. Synonyms are Alvarelhão Branco, Branco de Gouvaes and Branco Gouvaes. It must not be confused with the other Touriga varieties or Planta Nova (Alvarelhão Branco), despite the fact that the synonyms and morphological similarities seem to indicate this. The variety is grown in the Beiras and Trás-os-Montes areas. In 2016, 34 hectares of vineyards were designated in Portugal (Kym Anderson statistics).
