The white grape variety comes from South America(Argentina) and belongs to the Criolla group (see the history in detail). Synonyms are Chichera, Loca Blanca, Palet and Torrontés. Although it seems to be synonymous or morphologically similar, it should not be confused with the Moscatel Amarillo, Torrontés Riojano or Torrontés Sanjuanino. According to the last DNA analyses carried out in 2017, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Muscat d'Alexandrie x unknown partner. It is an all-female grape variety. It produces white wines with a subtle muscat. The variety is cultivated in Argentina in the provinces of Mendoza and Rio Negro. The area under cultivation in 2010 was 713 hectares (Kym Anderson).
