Torres Vedras

The DOC area for red and white wines in the Portuguese region of Extremadura used to be called only Torres, until the famous Spanish winery owner Miguel Torres (*1941) successfully protested against it. The wines are mainly made from the indigenous varieties Arinto, Camarate (Castelão Nacional), Fernão Pires, Jampal, Mortágua (Trincadeira Preta), Periquita, Rabo de Ovelha, Seara Nova, Tinta Miúda (Graciano) and Vital. Mainly they are simple table wines (Vinho de mesa).
