Producer description of "Torre de Oña, S.A."

The winery is located in the municipality of Páganos (Laguardia) in the Spanish Rioja sub-region . It was founded in 1987 by the Cuban Leandro Vázquez. In 1995 it was bought by the group . The vineyards cover 50 hectares of vineyards, in the middle of which stands a neoclassical-style palacio. There are 4,000 barrique barrels available for ageing. The wine is marketed under the Barón de Oña label. The Reserva is blended from 95% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo. It matures for 16 months in American barriques, then another 8 months in French barriques, and then another two years in the bottle. The average age of the barrels is three years. About one third of the production is exported.
