The winery is located in the municipality of Páganos (Laguardia) in the Spanish Rioja sub-region Rioja Alavesa. It was founded in 1987 by the Cuban Leandro Vázquez. In 1995 it was bought by the group La Rioja Alta. The vineyards cover 50 hectares of vineyards, in the middle of which stands a neoclassical-style palacio. There are 4,000 barrique barrels available for ageing. The wine is marketed under the Barón de Oña label. The Reserva is blended from 95% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo. It matures for 16 months in American barriques, then another 8 months in French barriques, and then another two years in the bottle. The average age of the barrels is three years. About one third of the production is exported.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
