Tonne

Old cavity and surface measure, which was common with different sizes in many countries. One ton of land was 0.39 to 0.55 hectares, one ton of liquid was 60 and 347 litres. In France the Tonneau gauge is still in use today. In the metric system, a tonneau consists of 1,000 kilograms (megagram). Tonneau is also an old designation (lat. Tunna) for barrel. See also under barrel types, surface measures and gauges.
