Tishbi

The winery is located in Zikhron-Yaacov near Haifa at the foot of the Carmelberg in Israel. Its origins date back to 1882, when Baron Edmond de Rothschild (1845-1934) revived Israeli viticulture through generous financial support. In its present form as "Tishbi Estate" it was founded in 1984 by Jonathan Tishbi. The estate also includes a tourist center with a restaurant and views of the historic vineyards. The vineyards are widely scattered in Zikhron-Yaacov on Carmel Mountain, Ben Zimra in the Upper Galilee, Kfar Tavor in the Lower Galilee near the Sea of Galilee, Gusch Etzion in the Judean Mountains, and Sde Boker in the Negev Desert. The varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Ruby Cabernet, Emerald Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Carignan Noir(Mazuelo), Colombard and Petite Sirah(Durif) are cultivated. It also produces fortified wine, sparkling wine and brandy.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
