Tiroler Sommelierverein

In November 1986 three experts from the gastronomy met for a talk and a good glass of wine. The three had known each other for a long time, as they all worked at the WIFI Tirol. These were Egon Mark, Josef Stoxreiter and Günther Kortschak. The later chairman Egon Mark was for three years in Sweden a member of the "Mundschänksvereinigung", a nationwide association similar to a sommelier club.

Tiroler Sommelierverein - Erster Vorstand mit Stellvertetern

From this meeting the idea of the "Tiroler Sommelierverein" was born. The registration at the association's authority was not easy, because the responsible official could not understand the term "sommelier" at that time. After detailed information, the registration went quickly. On 17 February 1987 the Tyrolean Sommelier Association presented itself to the public for the first time. The journalists were very interested. Gastronomers, the wine trade and also the Chamber of Commerce supported the association.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
