Tinta de Alcoa

The red grape variety is a new variety between Grand Noir (Grand Noir de la Calmette) x João de Santarém (Castelão Francês). Synonyms are Alcoa and Tinta de Alcobaca. The cross was made in 1948 by the breeder José Leão Ferreira da Almeida in Portugal. It is cultivated there in the two regions Centro and Norte. In 2016, 24 hectares of vines were planted (Kym Anderson statistics).
