Tierce

Designation (also Tierze, Tiercon, Tierzon) for a liquid measure or also a barrel type (see under Tiercon). The volume was 159.113 litres in England and 158.987 litres in the USA. In various countries, however, slightly different volumes were also valid. It was mainly used for wine, brandy and vinegar, but also honey. Two Tierces correspond to one Puncheon and six to one Tun.
