The red grape variety is a new cross between Aspiran Noir x Teinturier du Cher. DNA analyses carried out in 2013 showed that the parentage Bouschet Gros x Aspiran Noir given in the breeding list was false. Aspiran Bouschet: Synonyms are Aspiran Bouchet, Aspiran Bouson, Grand Noir de Laques, Spiga Monte, Spigamonti, Teinturier ad Acino Ovale and Tinturie Acino Ovale.
