This training system (also known as TK2T, Twin Two Tier Trellis) belongs to the group of trellis training systems. It was developed in 1982 by Dr. Richard E. Smart (*1945) in New Zealand at the Kauwhata Research Station. The system consists of two foliage walls, one above the other. The vine trunks are raised to alternate heights, with cordons being built up in both directions at a height of 40 cm on one vine until the next vine is reached. On the following vine, this is done at the same height of 110 cm. This creates two foliage and grape zones at different heights. See also lists under vine training (Systems) and Vineyard Care (Activities).
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
