Tazzelenghe

The red grape variety comes from Italy. Synonyms are Refsosco Botton, Refosco del Botton, Tacelenge, Tacelenghe, Tassalinghe, Taze Lunghe, Tazzalenghe Nera, Tazzelenghe Nera Friulana, Tazzalinghe, Tazzalingua and Tazzelanghe Nera Friulana. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2005, the Refosco del Botton variety is identical. There is a parent-progeny relationship with the variety Refosco di Faedis. The medium to late ripening vine produces dark coloured, tannic and acidic red wines. This is also indicated by the name, because the dialect "tazze lenghe" (taglia-lingua) means "tongue-cutter". The variety was first mentioned in Friuli in 1823. After the phylloxera catastrophe it was almost extinct at the beginning of the 20th century. At the end of the 1980s, the variety was reactivated and is registered in Friuli Venezia Giulia in the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC area. In 2016, 45 hectares of vineyards were designated (statistics Kym Anderson).
