The white grape variety originates from Germany. Synonyms are Blankenhorns Taylor, Linsenhofen, Melonentraube, Taylor Blankenhorn and Weißer Kilianer. It is an open-pollinated seedling of the American variety Taylor. This means that it contains at least genes of the species Vitis riparia and Vitis labrusca. The hybrid was selected in 1874 by the viticulturalist Adolph Blankenhorn (1843-1906). The berries or the wine show a foxtone. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
