Szerednye keg

Hungarian type of barrel with a volume of 200 to 220 litres, which is used today in the production of Tokaj, among other things. The name Szerednye hordó (hordó = barrel) is derived from Szerednye, where the barrel was mainly produced in the past. This municipality, which was formerly part of the Kingdom of Hungary, is now located in the far west of the Ukraine (Ruthenia). It was also called Kassaier or Kaschauer barrel in former times. See also under Göncer barrel (old Tokaj barrel), barrel types and wine vessels.
