The "Tibor & Illa Szemes" winery is located in Pinkafeld in the Eisenberg wine region of Burgenland (Austria). After the tragic death of Tibor Szemes in 2001, his widow Illa ran the Négociant-éleveur business (purchase of grapes and own processing). After the death of his mother in 2018, his son Oscar Szemes is now in charge. The grapes are delivered by contract winegrowers (members of Vereinte Winzer Blaufränkischland) with a total of around nine hectares of vineyards in the municipality of Horitschon in the Central Burgenland wine-growing region. The vinification takes place in our own cellar in Pinkafeld. Two red wines are produced. The "Blaufränkisch Imperial" is vinified since 1985. It is made from Blaufränkisch cuvéetiert with "a shot" of Merlot and Zweigelt and then aged for at least 18 months in exclusively new French barriques. The "Blaufränkisch Tradition", produced since 1983, matures for 14 months in used "Imperial-Barriques". About 45.000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The three winegrowers Tibor Szemes, Franz Xaver Pichler (Oberloiben, Wachau) and Manfred Tement (Zieregg, South Styria) created the red wine cuvée Arachon T.FX.T. together in 1996.
