Riede (also Szápary) in the municipality of Eisenberg in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Eisenberg (Austria). The name derives from the former noble owner family Count Szapáry from Hungary. The south-southeast-facing vineyards with a 69% slope lie between 293 and 403 metres above sea level and cover 20 hectares of vines. The vineyard is protected by a forest to the north. The heat-retaining rock subsoil consists of iron-bearing green slate, which is overlaid in places with a loamy weathered layer in the south-eastern part. In the south, the soil is covered by sandy-gravelly sediments. The Blaufränkisch variety is mainly cultivated on this soil, which is ideal for red wines. The Groszer Wein, Jalits, Kopfensteiner, Schiefer Uwe and Schützenhof wineries, for example, have shares in the vineyard.
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
