sweet as a pie

A term used specifically in Austria to describe a wine in the context of a wine-tasting session and intended to be derogatory (also intrusively sweet, sticky, sugar-sweet). Such a wine is also called "sugar water". The "pick" is derived from the term "peck" (sticky, adhesive). The wine is characterised by an obtrusive or opulent sweet taste, which lacks compensating acidity. See also under sugar.
