See the entry on photosynthesis.
Term (phos = light and sýnthesis = composition) for the production of energy-rich biomolecules using light energy. The chloroplasts (organ cells), in which the chlorophyll (leaf green) is located, are responsible for this. Colouring agents (chlorophyll, carotenoids, flavonoids) in leaves or other green parts of the plant use solar radiation as an energy source to produce carbohydrate compounds. In the process, carbon dioxide from the air and water are converted into sugar, while oxygen is released. Plants bind around 150 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide and produce 400 billion tonnes of oxygen on earth every year.
The physico-chemical process of osmosis plays an essential role by enabling the transport of water and nutrients required for photosynthesis. It is also responsible for transporting the organic substances produced during photosynthesis to the plant cells. All substances necessary for the plant life process are derived from the carbohydrates and nutrients. A role in transport that is closely linked to osmosis is played by transpiration (see there and below).

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
