The interest group of wineries in Styria (Austria) emerged from the group of "Styrian Classic Wine Growers", which was founded in 1986 and from 1993 on coined the term "Styrian Classic" for fresh and fruity white wines made from typical Styrian grape varieties. The name STK® is protected for the wineries Gross Alois, Lackner-Tinnacher, Maitz Wolfgang, Neumeister, Polz Erich & Walter, Sabathi Erwin, Sabathi Hannes, Sattlerhof, Tement Manfred and Winkler-Hermaden.
Only those wines that meet the strict rules and quality regulations may carry the STK logo. They are made from the white quality wine grape varieties permitted for this purpose, namely Gelber Muskateller(Muscatel), Grauburgunder(Pinot Gris), Morillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer or Weißburgunder(Pinot Blanc). The group is dedicated to the Styrian wine culture typical for the region. STK wines carry the STK logo as a quality mark bindingly on the capsule and optionally also on the label (due to the current legal situation "Erste STK Lage" or "Grosse STK Lage" may not be advertised on the label). All other wines can also carry a STK logo on the capsule, but not in silver/gold or the text 1 STK or G STK).
