The white grape variety possibly originates from Russia. Synonyms are Mare's Nipple and Maru. The parentage is unknown. It is said to have been introduced to China from Russia as early as the middle of the 7th century. The vine is mainly used as table grape but also as a wine grape for the production of simple, sweet wines. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
