The white grape variety possibly originates from Russia. Synonyms are Mare's Nipple and Maru. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. It is said to have been introduced to China from Russia as early as the middle of the 7th century. The vine is mainly used as table grape but also as wine grape for the production of simple, sweet wines. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
