Strawberry flavour

This flavour note is closely related to the foxy (flavour note), with which it usually occurs together. Depending on the culture, this can be understood positively or negatively, which also depends on the flavour. In Europe, the flavour tends to be viewed negatively or even as a wine defect, but in Japan it is highly valued. The strawberry flavour is a characteristic of certain American vines, especially the Vitis labrusca species or crosses with it. The typical strawberry flavour is caramel-sweet with harmoniously integrated fine acidity. Well-known wines with this flavour are Americano (Italy), Fragolino (Switzerland) and Uhudler (Austria).
