British wine writer Tom Stevenson (*1951) is considered to be one of the best specialist writers, recognised for his "clear, sparkling prose" in his non-fiction books. His first articles were published in the 1970s in the wine journals Decanter and Wine & Spirit International, where he was already particularly interested in Champagne and sparkling wines. He has written more than 20 books, which have been translated into 25 languages. Published in 1965, "Champagne" was the first wine book to win four literary awards.

Published in 1998, "Christie's World Encyclopedia of Champagne & Sparkling Wine" with a foreword by Michael Broadbent (1927-2020) is one of the top ten wine books among wine experts. In it, sparkling wine producers from all over the world and their products are rated using a 100-point system. What is unusual is that the entire scale of 100 points is used (it usually starts at 50).
