Steinmassl

A vineyard (site) in the wine town of Langenlois in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Kamptal. The name goes back to a stonemason whose name was derived from his tool (stone chisel). It lies between the Loiserberg vineyards to the west and Steinberg to the east. The south-southeast-facing vineyards in the shape of a basin cover 22 hectares of vines at 245 to 344 metres above sea level with a slope of 0° to 32°.

The soil is characterised by crystalline parent rock consisting of paragneiss and mica schist, resulting in predominantly dry and stony soils. Relatively strong weathering leads in places to thick, rocky brown soils up to one metre deep. The dominant varieties are Riesling (13 ha) and Grüner Veltliner (6 ha), followed by Zweigelt, Muscat, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Neuburger. The wineries Bründlmayer Willi, Grillmaier, Loimer Fred, Rabl Rudolf, Sax Rudolf and Summerer, for example, have shares in the vineyard.
