Steinbach (Riede Österreich)

Riede (site) in the municipality of Gamlitz in the Styrian wine-growing region of southern Styria. It stretches over a length of approx. 1.5 kilometres and is very narrow in places. The name refers to a stream with a stony riverbed.

The west-north-west facing vineyards cover 15 hectares of vines at 263 to 340 metres above sea level with slopes of 2 to 27 degrees. The soils consist of conglomerate and breccia (angular rubble rock) and are characterised by loamy brown earth. The soil is deep, low in lime and medium-humic. Despite its high permeability, it has a good water retention capacity under generally dry water conditions.
