steely

Description for the taste of an acidic white wine in the context of a wine evaluation or wine address. The firm, almost hard acidity is harmoniously integrated into the overall picture. Rieslings are often given this attribute. However, this must not be confused with the term metallic, which has negative connotations. A related term of steely is racy, others are fine-acid, fresh, lively, nervous and tangy. An excessively high or inharmonious proportion of acids is described by the negatively connoted terms aggressive, acetic, edgy, sour and sharp. See also under sour wine.
