The winery is located in the romantic town of Meersburg (Lake Constance area) above the ship harbour in the German wine-growing region of Baden. The historic buildings and the vineyards originate from the former property of the Prince-Bishops of Constance. In 1802/1803, as a result of Napoleonic secularisation, the winery first became "Grand Ducal Domain Winery", then in 1919 "State Winegrowing Domain", and finally after the Second World War "State Winery Meersburg". Today it is run as a business enterprise of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The wine sales department, the winery, the estate administration and the estate tavern are located in the former riding arena of the castle. From there you have a magnificent view over the lake to the Alps. The director of the winery is Dr. Jürgen Dietrich, the first cellar master is Johannes Brückner.
