The German wine journalist, author, lyricist and taster(wine critic) Carsten M. Stammen (*1971) lives near Frankfurt am Main. His main focus is on wines from Germany, France and Austria, as well as the hospitality and service industries. After his training as a restaurant specialist at the Hotel Schloss Hugenpoet in Essen-Kettwig, he studied tourism business management at the Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences and completed a traineeship at the Vienna Hilton Hotel in Vienna.
He wrote his diploma thesis on "Intra-organizational conflicts in the hotel and catering industry". Stammen then worked for over ten years in the fields of communication, further education and event management. The stations were two marketing and PR agencies, a trade association and an international conference and seminar organizer. As a sideline, he trained in viticulture and sensory science and became a juror at professional tastings in 2005, first at the Busche-Verlag, later at the magazine "Selection".
