Stable manure

Term (also manure) for the mixture of animal excrement (manure with solid and liquid components) with a binding medium that occurs in stables in agriculture when keeping livestock. This consists of vegetable bedding, usually straw, sometimes also wood shavings or hemp chaff, often mixed with the hay not consumed by the livestock. This is also used as fertiliser and to produce humus and compost. See also under liquid manure.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
