St. Magdalene's

Subzone (also in Italian Santa Maddalena) for red wine within the DOC area Alto Adige in the Italian wine growing area Alto Adige (in the double region Trentino-Alto Adige). The historical area includes the name-giving municipality of St. Magdalena and the Bolzano districts of Leitach, Rentsch, St. Justina and St. Peter. Other municipalities are Guntschna, Haslach, Kampenn, Kampill, Kardaun, Karneid, Moritzing, Sand, Siebeneich, Signat, St. Georgen, Unterplatten and Virgl. The name of the subzone and additionally "Classico" or "Classical" or "Classical area of origin" for wines from the historical area can be indicated on the label. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna can be indicated followed by the name of the vineyard.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
