The white grape variety (also spourtico) originates from Cyprus. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2005, it is closely related to the Ofthalmo variety, which is also Cypriot. However, the parentage is unknown. The medium-maturing vine is relatively resistant to various diseases. Significant is the sensitive berry skin, to which the name (meaning "burst") also refers. It produces low-alcohol white wines with aromas of grapefruit and lemon. The variety is grown in Cyprus around Páphos and Limassol. This is also done together in rows alternating with the all-female variety Maratheftiko to improve its pollination. The area under cultivation in 2010 was 10 hectares; no stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
