single vineyard in the municipality of Heidelberg (Badische Bergstraße area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. It is separated by the Neckar river valley opposite Heidelberg Castle. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) is said to have said that this is the most beautiful vineyard in Germany. The southwest-facing, steeply terraced vineyard with 30 to 60% slope covers only 1.4 hectares of vines. The soils are divided into two different formations with Buntstein weathered and granite weathered soils. The varieties Riesling and Pinot Noir are cultivated. The site is protected from cold winds by a forest. The Clauer Jörg and Müller Adam wineries have shares in the site.
