Single location

Designation (also location) for the second smallest unit of vineyard area in Germany as the geographically protected origin of a wine. Single vineyard site designations are given for all German wine-growing areas. Since 2014 it has been possible to have smaller areas within a single vineyard site, which can also be cross-location, entered in the vineyard register as a cadastral site (now the smallest area unit), which is also used by individual wineries. The indication of the individual vineyard location on the bottle label is not mandatory, but is relatively common in Germany for quality wines. The next larger units of area are Großlage (with usually several individual sites), Bereich (with one or more Großlagen) and Anbaugebiet (with one or more areas).
