Confusing name or synonym for many mostly very old grape varieties, most of which are not related to each other. It could refer to the colour of the berries or leaves. These are Chasselas (Silberling, Silberweißling), Elbling, Iordan (Klein Silberweiß), Juhfark, Mézes Fehér or Honigler, Räuschling, Sárfehér, and Silberweißer Veltliner (a mutation of Rotweißer Veltliner). In Austria, some winegrowers have very small stocks under the name Silberweißer. However, it is not always clear which variety it is (in Austria these are mostly Elbling or Silberweißer Veltliner). However, no stocks were reported under this name in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
