The white grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Oberlin 595 S. P.(Oberlin Noir S.P.) x Riesling. The name refers to the Nibelungen figure. Synonyms are Siegfridrebe and Geilweilerhof F.S. 4-201-39. Genes of Vitis riparia and Vitis vinifera are included. The hybrid was bred in 1936 by Dr. Bernhard Husfeld (1900-1970) in the vine breeding department of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute in Müncheberg (Mark Brandenburg). The selection took place in 1940. In view of the bad experiences with French hybrids in the decades before, it was a phenomenal success from a breeding-scientific point of view with Aris, which was created at the same time.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
