Shy man Mario

Born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße (Rhineland-Palatinate), German wine author and wine critic Mario Scheuermann (1948-2015) came from a family with 300 years of wine and gastronomic tradition. He lived and worked in Lauenburg/Elbe near Hamburg and in Ódorfa (western Hungary). His journalistic beginnings date back to the 1970s, when he worked as a reporter for the Hamburger Morgenpost. In the 1980s he was a co-founder of German wine journalism. From 1979 to 1983 he was editor and in 1984 editor-in-chief of the magazine Ullsteins Gourmet Journal/VIF, and in the 1990s he worked as a restaurant critic for Die Welt and Welt am Sonntag.

As an author, he published the books "Essen wie Gott in Deutschland I und II" (1987, 1988), "Die großen Weine des Jahrhunderts" (The Great Wines of the Century) (awarded a gold medal by GAD), "Deutsche Spitzenweingüter" (1989), Spitzenweingüter Österreichs" (1991), "Capital Wein Compass" (2000) and "Wein und Zeit" (2007). In addition, he has published numerous essays and publications on the topics of "Food, Drink and Lifestyle" in numerous newspapers, magazines and wine journals such as Capital (with a column "Wein Compass"), Die Zeit, Alles über Wein, Falstaff, Vinum and Slowfood Magazin
