The white grape variety originates from Albania; the name means "White Shesh". Synonyms are Belii Scet, Pucalla, Serini Bradhe, Seshi Bradhe, Seski Bardhe, Seski Brodhe and White Shesh. It is named after the municipality of Shesh to the west of Tirana. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. It is not known whether there is a possible genetic link to the red variety Shesh i Zi. The late-maturing vine is cultivated in the centre of the country, where it makes up around a third of the Albanian population together with Shesh i Zi. However, no stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
