Frequent designation or part of the name of Rieden in Austria. The designation refers to newly exposed vineyards.
The vineyard is located in the Kastralgemeinde Liesing in the 23rd district Liesing of the same name in the southwest of Vienna (Austria). It belongs to the Großlage Maurerberg. The vineyard was classified by the Winzervereinigung WienWein as 1 ÖTW (Erste Lage of the Traditional Wine Estates of Austria). The south-facing vineyards with slopes ranging from 2 to 17 degrees cover 11 hectares of vineyards at 250 to 300 metres above sea level on shell limestone soils. The microclimate is characterised by many hours of sunshine as well as cool temperatures at night and moisture from the neighbouring Vienna Woods. About half of the vineyard is planted with the typical varieties for the wine Wiener Gemischter Satz and the other half with Riesling.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
