The red grape variety is a new cross between Baroque x Cot (Malbec); the Basque name means "a son". The cross was made in 1956 on behalf of INRA by the Basque Pierre Marcel Durquéty (1923-2016) in France with the support of the University of Montpellier. Incidentally, the same parents also produced the new variety Odola. The variety protection was granted in 1985. The vine produces a colourful, fruity red wine. It is cultivated in small quantities in south-western France in the departments of Charente and Charente-Maritime. In 2016, only one hectare of vineyard was designated (Kym Anderson statistics).
