The Selbach-Oster winery is located in the municipality of Zeltingen in the German Mosel wine-growing region (Mittelmosel). The family looks back on a wine-growing tradition of over 400 years. The Selbachs, who come from Ürzig, have been growing grapes since 1600, and the Osters were coopers from Zeltingen. The great-grandfather of the current owner Johannes owned a steamship that was used to transport barrels across the Moselle and Rhine to the North Sea ports. The barrels were made by the cooper Matthias Oster (paternal great-grandfather). In 1963, the family-owned vineyards of the two families were separated from the traditional old-style "Kellerei J & H Selbach" and combined as an independent business. Since then, there have been the two businesses "J & H Selbach" (winery) and "Selbach-Oster" (vineyard).
