The white grape variety originates from the border region Italy (Gorizia)-Slovenia (Goricia). Synonyms are Schiaglin, Schiarlina, Sciarlin, Scjaglín and Scjarlin. It was already mentioned in Spilimbergo-Friaul in the 15th century. In the 1980s it was found by the winemaker Emilio Bulfon in the municipality of Pinzano al Tagliamento (Province of Pordenone, Friuli Venezia Giulia Region) together with other varieties and was revived with the help of the ampelographs Antonio Calò and Ruggero Forti. The vine produces juicy white wines with apple and lemon aromas. It is cultivated in the municipalities of Castelnovo di Friuli and Pinzano al Tagliamento. In 2016, three hectares of vineyard area were designated (statistics Kym Anderson).
